  18. <p>     It's not often that a religious zealot conducts an image
  19. rehaul. But Muslim leader LOUIS FARRAKHAN appears to be
  20. softening. Once a virulent anti-Semite who described Judaism as
  21. a "gutter religion," Farrakhan now wants to make amends. So,
  22. during a classical-music symposium in North Carolina, he showed
  23. up for a crowd of 300 to perform Mendelssohn's violin concerto.
  24. The former entertainer, who hadn't studied the instrument in 40
  25. years, learned only recently that the composer was a Jew.
