- <p> It's not often that a religious zealot conducts an image
- rehaul. But Muslim leader LOUIS FARRAKHAN appears to be
- softening. Once a virulent anti-Semite who described Judaism as
- a "gutter religion," Farrakhan now wants to make amends. So,
- during a classical-music symposium in North Carolina, he showed
- up for a crowd of 300 to perform Mendelssohn's violin concerto.
- The former entertainer, who hadn't studied the instrument in 40
- years, learned only recently that the composer was a Jew.
